Connect Ohio program opens 'whole new world' to Marion couple

MARION - They're a two-computer couple now.

Roseanna Wenig and her husband, Ralph, won't have to share computer time anymore.

The Marion woman won a Dell laptop computer, valued at $399, following her participation in the Every Citizen Online program, a free statewide basic computer and Internet training program.

Beyond installation: Community planning for rural broadband

Broadband Internet access unlocks doors that might otherwise be closed for job opportunities, telecommuting, education, entertainment, commerce, government services, communications, medicine and health, and social and community networking.

Connect Ohio, a subsidiary of the national non-profit Connected Nation, had an eCommunity Strategies (eCS) meeting in Urbana, Ohio, in early June to showcase its grassroots approach to deploying broadband in rural areas. Community leaders from agriculture, business and industry, government, community-based organizations, recreation and tourism, health care and education gathered to create a comprehensive picture of the community in terms of broad and deployment.

Connect Ohio preparing for second round of stimulus money

Connect Ohio plans to re-apply for federal stimulus funds in the coming months.

Connect Ohio, a nonprofit organization that strives to improve technology use across the state and to promote broadband implementation in Ashland County, initially applied for funding during the first round of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act's broadband grant and loan program.

Ohio receives $1.8 million grant to map high-speed Internet
